Paris Hilton is in trouble for supposedly not doing enough to make National Lampoon’s Pledge This! sound hot. Not concerning itself with what a daunting task that was, the film’s distributor, Florida-based Worldwide Entertainment Group, sued the heiress Tuesday for breach of contract, charging that she didn’t come through after being paid $1 million to star in and promote the 2006 comedy.

Chinese officials defended their decision to pass off the voice of a 7-year-old songbird as that of another girl at the Olympic opening ceremony, calling it a simple casting choice. Critics said it was a step too far in China’s obsession with the perfect Olympic Games.

Intel is planning production of the first Xeon server chips based on the Nehalem microarchitecture for the fourth quarter of this year with “broad availability in early 2009,” according to a recent Intel presentation obtained by ChannelWeb. Some unofficial reports have pegged the release of the first Nehalem server chips in the next month or two, a time period during which Intel could conceivably begin releasing sample chips to partners for testing if full-scale production kicks off in early Q4.

As I scanned my E-mails this morning, several were from readers asking for my take on the latest breast cancer news showing that the risk of relapse after five years is much lower than a patient might expect. The study, published yesterday in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute, found that once patients make it to the five-year mark without a relapse, about 89 percent are disease free five years later at the 10-year mark and 80 percent at the 15-year mark. That’s certainly reassuring news for those patients paralyzed by a fear of relapse long after they finish their treatments.
