In an effort to win new customers, credit card issuers are trying to personalize credit cards whenever and wherever they can. For instance, Dah Sing Bank in Hong Kong is trying to corner the cat-lover market by issuing a special “Hello Kitty” credit card.

Personalized credit cards can help to drum up business for a credit card company. Also, psychologically speaking, consumers may be more inclined to use a credit card if its look strikes their fancy. Obviously, however, the great danger is that the more an individual is tempted to use a credit card, the more debt he or she will rack up. As a result, credit experts recommend limiting yourself to a single card if you think you’re in danger of getting in over your head when it comes to credit card debt.

A more practical way to ensure that you have a credit card with an attractive appearance is to consider credit card covers. These enticing covers serve as a second skin for your credit cards. These covers are simple to use and apparently do no damage to your card. You can easily slide the card through a reader.

The credit card skins are also advertised as being “sweatshop free and carbon neutral,” so they’re apparently good for both labor and the environment.

One of the great selling points for credit card skins is their variety of designs. For instance, you can choose from a stylish plaid or from a Benjamin Franklin $100 bill. However, the most popular seller by far is something called the blackout, which will only reveal your name and credit card number.

Financial experts are saying that the skins may be a good way to curb an individual’s appetite for additional credit. If you have an attractive skin in your pocket or purse, you may be able to reduce your appetite for additional attractive credit cards.
